About the SOS committee…

Supporters of Oughtibridge School raises a significant amount of money every year to go towards making our school the best it can be. This is done with the help of so many parents, carers, teachers, local businesses and probably more people than we can thank and name here. If you want to be involved in organising, deciding how the money raised is spent and participating in events you can come along to the next SOS meeting.

If you want to be even more involved you can also become part of the SOS committee. Every year we hold our AGM in September and all positions are up for election. Everyone can run for a position and we really encourage new friends and faces. You can always shadow a role for a year if you don’t want to commit straight away or can’t decide. Below are also brief descriptions of each position.

Being part of the committee is a great way to become part of the school, getting to know other parents and teachers, and also to make a real difference to your child’s school experience.

Trustees: Have and must accept ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of the SOS charity, and ensuring that it is solvent, well-run, and delivering the charitable outcomes for the benefit of the public and school for which it has been set up.

Chair: Main duties include chairing meetings, to co-ordinate the running of SOS events, liaising closely with the Headteacher to ensure SOS working in harmony with the school and to welcome and involve all parents / carers.

Vice-Chair: To assist Chair in all activities and chairing meetings in Chair’s absence.  Ensuring all events are run smoothly and are fully staffed with volunteers.

Treasurer: Responsibility for balancing books, giving regular financial updates, costing events, counting and banking monies raised, No need to be a qualified accountant but good understanding of finance required.

Secretary: Responsible for ensuring effective communication links between committee members and between the association and the school. The Secretary deals with all the correspondence that the SOS receives and helps the Chair ensure that committee meetings run smoothly .

If any of the roles interest you email or talk to one of the current committee members.
